Company of the Blackened Staff

argent shield, over a vert pale on sable field.

Five years ago no one had heard of the Company
of the Blackened Staff, when they moved into a
fortified manor in the city of Syracussa and appeared
to be a small mercenary unit in training. They
did not actively recruit and were mostly believed
to be taking contracts off the island as no Great
House had formally recognised them as condottieri
[mercenaries granted official sanction to
operate in Sicilija - Ed]. Many were even
unsure that they would be able to afford the somewhat
ample manor they seemed to be hiring.
In the autumn of 1102 everything became clear
as the then Don Molinari arrived at a Grand Ball
in attendance with the Company of the Blackened
Staff. One of the Don's first actions was arranging
their public recognition as Sicilijan condottieri
and that they had the right to take contract on
the Island. He then revealed that for the last
3 years they had been his personal guards.
The Company of the Blackened Staff is a new
and unique force of Sicilian condottieri, comprising
primarily of beastkin, and other non-human races.
Originally, under the overall command of Nightfall,
the company was split into two units each holding
a separate contract - one under the command of
Eclipse and one under Dusk.
However after events in Sicilija and a significant
number of losses, both there, and at Dunwich Vale,
including Nightfall himself, the Company reformed
into one unit on contract in Albion under Captain
Eclipse. For the last two years they served
as vassals to House Karlennon.
In 1107, with Eclipse being granted the title of Countess of Nottingham the Company took a collective decision to move to Keswick.
