Submission Guidelines

In order to remain useful and intestering the website needs content ... and dedicated as they are, both command and the web team already have lots of work to do keeping it running. More importantly however the website is supposed to represent the faction - and to do so its content needs to be written by the faction, not just by a minority.

Consequently submissions would be much appreciated. Hopefully the more help we get with the site the better it will look and the more valuable a resource it will become.

In-character or out-of-character?

The website itself is out-of-character (OOC); no such thing exists in the campaign world and thus your character cannot have read it. It is however still possible to post IC information on it ... and, in fact, most submissions are likely to be IC material.

Players should not attempt to action, announce or propose anything through the website; it's a LIVE roleplay game and therefore only actions initiated at an event are truly in-character. Players are however free to (and in fact encouraged to) report on game events ... tell other players what happened last event, post obituaries for dead characters, let other people see the lyrics to that song you sung.

What sort of material do you want?

We'll be grateful for anything you send us, but there are certain thing we're particularly looking for:

In-character

  • Reports - Give your character's version of events at the Harts last glorious victory/catastropic defeat (delete as applicable). Reports of specific incidents within an event (proclamations, trials, privvy council meetings, your team's progress in the Heartland Games, etc) are all valuable too. Basically, if you think people would be interested to read about it then we'll be happy to see a report ... and since it's IC you can be as biased as you want.
  • Group backgrounds - A few paragraphs about your group background and maybe a group photo. You can include a link to your own website if you've got one ... and please include the character name of you IC group leader and the duchy/county/barony of Albion in which you're based. To make this even easier for you we've included a pre-formatted online form with which to submit your group details.
  • Character biographies - A couple of paragraphs about your character background and a portrait photo. This section isn't just for members of command (although if your character has just been appointed to the Royal Council people will definately be interested to see a biography); every player puts work into their own character background and we're interested to see it (although please don't include anything you want kept secret).
  • Character obituaries - A few words about the deceased.
  • Other library items - In-character songs, recipies, jokes, etc are all potentially good. If you've got an IC article that you think people would be interested in we'll try to find a space for it.

With in-character submissions, please ensure you give your character name so we know who to attribute it to.

Out-of-character

  • News - The faction is an OOC community as well as an IC one. If Harts players have big news (get married, have children, emigrate. etc) and you think the rest of the faction would be interested then please do let us know.
  • Web elements - If you come across artwork or something similar that really seems appropriate for this website then we'd wouild of course be interested to see it.

Will submissions be edited / refused?

Potentially, yes. It's unlikely, however we do need to be careful to try to avoid causing OOC offence, contradicting plot or faction history, breaking the Lorien Trusts rules, or bringing the hobby into disrepute in any way ... so consequently we do reserve the right to edit or refuse any material that's submitted.

Particularly long items may also need to be edited for space, but we'd prefer it if submission were relatively consise anyway, since huge reams of prose are somewhat daunting to most readers.

Any IC items you submit will probably have your character name attached to them, so any comments are made at your own IC risk.

File formats

Ideally material should submited as plain text (the web team will only have to reformat it to fit in on the website anyway). Photographs should be saved as JPG files and graphics as GIF. We can try to accomodate other formats if neccessary, but it's not guarenteed.
